Nordisk Rum - “Baand” : Feb - March 2014
“Nordisk Rum” - Baand - is to establish a cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary “room” for artists to work with. The project is initiated by the four different literature houses: Literaturhaus Rostock, LiteraturHaus Copenhagen, Literaturhuset Frederikstad and Literaturhus Lund. Historically, there has been a strong tradition for artists in the northern countries to work together.
The overall idea for the project is to celebrate the historically solid tradition for artists to have strong connections to their neighboring countries.
“As human beings we are addicted to order and structure. We categorize our surroundings in boxes; rooms, if you may. These are structures that in some coincidences have been an advance to our creativity. Our written language, for instance, started out as a reflection of our spoken one; neither punctuation nor spaces between our words did exist. But as our room of written language grew bigger, so did our need for creating a certain structure within it. We separated the words into small units and inserted commas as well as punctuation marks in order to create the chest of drawers that today is known as syntax. “
